The game
Witches © 1999 James Burton, freeware. The files are the original release, unaltered; its license lets copies be put on a web site as long as they are not altered, not sold, and not credited to anyone else. Its copyright notice and readme are reproduced here.
This site is not affiliated with James Burton. The small launcher that starts the game
in the emulator (it loads the unchanged Witches1.2.exe and redirects screen
drawing and MIDI playback to this page) was written for this site.
Music
The game ships with MIDI sequences of classical and folk pieces, which the author believed to be public domain (music readme). The sequences were made by 1990s hobbyists; credits as found in the files:
| File | Sequenced by |
|---|---|
| intro, grass, grass2 | David E. Lovell |
| ice, sky2 | Jason M. Stone |
| dead, graveyard | Ken Whitcomb |
| mountain | H.-J. Roeder |
| swamp | Gary Goldberg, David Siu |
| victory | J. H. Frimodig |
| evil | Al Borges / Advanced Gravis |
| sky, caves, desert, desert2, babayaga, babayaga2 | not credited in the files |
The game played these through the Windows MIDI synth. Here they play through FluidSynth with the GeneralUser GS soundfont by S. Christian Collins (license).
